PHYS 1040: Astronomy
This course, while only lasting half the time of a regular course, was full of information. Astronomy being one of my favorite topics, it was easy to hook onto what was being said. If you paid attention, this course was very simple.
The main project of this semester was to research something that related to astronomy. This allowed for a self-induced dive into extra information that we wouldn't have learned otherwise.
Reflection:
In a group of three, Natalie, Eric, and I decided to research the life and discoveries of Sir Isaac Newton. Previous to this project, I had known close to nothing about Newton. Before this class, I knew close to nothing about Newton. It really put everything into perspective. If I knew nothing of the people who have created what the world is today, then I'd be an ignorant person who would only undo their progress.
Researching Newton really helped me understand the concepts he created. What is there to Newton's Laws of Motion if I don't know what brought them about or the foundation of their existence? I also learned that he was a very religious man. Being a firm believer in the camaraderie between religion and science, he helped me see that my views are not in vain.
Furthermore, it is important to realize that geniuses like Sir Isaac Newton are people. We are all people and we are all capable of what he did. Whether we choose to take that path or ignore it is another thing all together.
